BoT marks its Pearl Jubilee with Dar Beach clean-up, donates waste bins to schools

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has intensified its commitment to environmental conservation by conducting a large-scale beach clean-up exercise at Dengua Beach in Dar es Salaam as part of activities marking the bank’s 60th anniversary.

Speaking to journalists during the event, BOT Deputy Governor for Administration and Internal Controls (AIC), Dr. Rahma Salim Mahfoudh, said the initiative was aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and strengthening community participation in conservation efforts.

“As part of our 60th anniversary celebrations, we have chosen to give back to society through environmental conservation activities. Clean surroundings are essential for public health and sustainable development,” she said.

Dr Mahfoudh noted that BOT remains committed to ensuring that its community support programmes continue on a sustainable basis.

“The Bank of Tanzania is dedicated to maintaining long-term community development initiatives. Environmental conservation is a shared responsibility involving the government, communities and institutions,” she added.

She stressed that environmental protection requires collective efforts from all stakeholders, saying a clean environment contributes directly to national productivity.

“A nation with a clean environment is a nation with higher productivity and better living standards,” she said.

To ensure the sustainability of cleanliness efforts, BOT donated waste bins and environmental conservation equipment, including rakes, to schools, markets and community groups.
