BOOST funds Gairo schools with 1.9bn/-

MOROGORO: GAIRO District Council in Morogoro Region has received 1.9bn/- under the BOOST Primary Student Learning Programme to support the construction of two new pre-primary and primary schools, classroom blocks and toilet facilities in selected schools during the 2025/2026 financial year.

The funds will be used to build 73 classrooms and 168 toilet pits in addition to the two new schools. Speaking during the opening of a special training programme organized by the Division of Pre-Primary and Primary Education recently, the District Executive Director, Sharifa Nabalang’anya said the projects will help to improve learning environment in the district.

She said the training had been organized purposely to build the capacity of BOOST project supervisors.

Ms Nabalang’anya explained that the training would help stakeholders implement the projects effectively, adhering to the guidelines provided by the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, including procurement procedures and the allocated timeline.

“ In this financial year, we already have significant funding solely for the basic education sector. 1.9bn/- is no small amount, and we have every reason to continue thanking President Samia Suluhu Hassan for empowering Gairo District,” Nabalang’anya said.

She added:” It is not just this project, the basic education sector has indeed been prioritised, but Gairo is also benefiting from funding across many other sectors under the leadership of President Samia.” Head of the Pre-Primary and Primary Education Division, Ms Khadija Mwinuka said the training targeted ward officers overseeing the projects, ward education coordinators, head teachers, project supervising teachers, village chairpersons and members of the project committees.

She also noted that among the schools benefiting from the BOOST programme are Kilimani Primary School, located in Chakwale Ward.

According to Ms Mwinuka, the school has been allocated 77.8m/- for the construction of three classrooms and six toilet pits. She said the funds provided by the government would help to reduce the shortage of classrooms and create a more conducive teaching and learning environment for both teachers and students.

BOOST is part of the second phase of the Education Programme for Results (EPforR II) and supports the implementation of the Five-Year Education Sector Development Plan (2021/22–2025/26).

The programme aims to enhance equitable access to quality learning in pre-primary and primary education across Mainland Tanzania.
