Bolt launches selfie-based safety feature

BOLT has rolled out a driver selfie-check feature as part of its ongoing efforts to prioritise safety and combat driver impersonation and account sharing on the platform.

Bolt Country Manager, Charles Matondane, said over the weekend that this new feature will require drivers to take selfie when they come online, thereby ensuring their identity verification and aligning the provided details in the app with the shared photos.

“Once a driver goes online, they will be prompted to take a selfie to verify their identity. Should the selfie not match previously shared driver details, the driver will be restricted from offering their services on the platform until their details are verified,” he said.

The driver selfie check, as an added feature, provides enhanced safety for users on the Bolt platform as it allows the verification of the drivers to avoid cases of impersonation and also deter drivers from sharing their accounts.

“For Bolt, the safety of our riders and drivers remains our topmost concern. We are committed to continuous innovation and providing exceptional safety features,” he added.

Over the years, Bolt has introduced additional features on its platform to enhance the safety and well-being of drivers, boda boda riders, and passengers during a Bolt trip.
