Bocco arrival boosts Stars hopes

John Bocco

TAIFA Stars Assistant Coach Mecky Mexime said the inclusion of John Bocco in the squad will add extra energy into the team saying he is a senior player with all qualities to bring positive impact.

The country’s flag carriers are gearing up for the away win in their return leg match of African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Uganda in Kampala tomorrow.

The winner will progress into the CHAN finals to be staged in Algeria in January, 2023.

“We are engaged in our final drills plus improving psychology of players so that we can easily perform our job.

“The good thing is the recovery of Abdul Suleiman as well as inclusion of Bocco in the team which without doubt will add value and energy to help us do well,” Mexime said.

He further pointed out that the game is likely to be difficult, as they (Uganda) will be defending their lead while Taifa Stars will be eager to score many goals.

“We need to sit down and come up with plans on what we ought to do in order to get goals there and that is what we are working hard on,” the former Taifa Stars player said.

On his part, center-back Bakari Mwamnyeto said they are well prepared to win in Uganda and clear their path to CHAN finals.

“This is not the first time for us to try to turn things around. Remember, we once lost here to Sudan but went on to win at their backyard…we are going to do the same in Uganda,” Mwamnyeto said confidently.

Stars are heading to the battlefield with a 1-0 deficit they suffered in the first leg match at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in the city after a tense encounter.

They just need to register a victory to get a chance of parading into the finals and be among the cream of African home based players fighting for the honour.
