DODOMA-BASED Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) in collaboration with the One New Heart Tanzania/USA, a non-governmental organisation, will today begin a medical camp for children with cardiovascular complications at the hospital’s premises.
Head of the Cardiology Clinic at the BMH, Dr Happiness Kusima, noted here over the weekend that children, who would be found with cardiovascular complications, would undergo diagnosis, receive treatment and be admitted to the BMH for free of charge.
“Our local cardiologists will team up with their counterparts from US to conduct a medical camp to put smiles to children with cardiovascular complications,” said the Head of Cardiology Clinic at the BMH.
Dr Kusima said the seven-day medical camp will involve heart screening for children with heart complications.
“Children, who will be diagnosed with heart complications will undergo procedures and be admitted to the BMH free of charge. The camp will cover heart procedures and admission to the BMH,” she stressed.
Dr Kusima said the camp is meant to build capacity among local cardiologists at the BMH, saying the local cardiologists will borrow a leaf of experience from their counterparts of US.
Pediatrician at the BMH, Dr Rehema Yona, said children would be screened at the Pediatric Clinic at the BMH, and those found with heart complications will be transferred to cardiology clinic for procedures.
“Parents and guardians should make use of this opportunity to bring their children to the BMH for medication,” she said.
Dr Yona urged parents and guardians whose children were diagnosed with heart complications during the BMH medical camp earlier this year to bring them for medication in the forthcoming camp.
