BMH tasked to remain steadfast in aiding GBV victims

MEMBERS of staff of the Dodoma-based Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) have been encouraged to remain steadfast in aiding victims of domestic and gender-based violence, when seeking services at the Zonal Referral Hospital.

BMH Executive Director, Dr Alphonce Chandika, said here over the weekend that BMH has been receiving a substantial number of victims of domestic and GBV, directing all staff members of the hospital to provide the victims with required assistance.

He was speaking while opening a two-day domestic and GBV workshop to members of staff of the BMH. The workshop funded by the World Health Organisation (WHO), drew participants from administration, reception and customer care services.

On her part, Assistant Director of Training and Research at the BMH, Ms Hindu Ibrahim, noted the main goal of the workshop is to build capacity to staff, who are non-services providers at the hospital.

“The workshop is geared towards building capacity to non-service providers at the BMH in order to cooperate in service provision when victims of the domestic and GBV seek services at the hospital,” said the Hospital’s Assistant Director of Training and Research.

Ms Leah Mwitula, one of the workshop participants, said that she learned that every staff member of the Hospital can play a role in support of the service provision for domestic and GBV victims while seeking care at the Hospital.

“I’ll share this knowledge to teach my colleagues in my unit how to stop domestic and GBV as well as to support its victims while seeking service at our hospital,” said Ms Mwitula, who is a receptionist.

Mr George Mkoyombe, another workshop participant, said he learnt about types of domestic and GBV, saying knowledge he had got would facilitate improving his responsibilities at the hospital.
