Biteko urges public to embrace unity, mutual support

DAR ES SALAAM: DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko, has urged Tanzanians to foster a culture of mutual support, respect and tolerance to achieve collective developmental goals.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on Sunday when he represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the Dedication Ceremony of the Sabbath Adventist Church building in Magomeni, Dr Biteko underscored the importance of reconciliation, resilience and peace for societal progress.

“President Samia consistently emphasises reconciliation, resilience and strengthening peace as vital pillars for achieving development and prosperity,” Dr Biteko said.

He encouraged congregants and Tanzanians at large to enhance community services and invest in sustainable initiatives that address the nation’s needs.

Dr Biteko also highlighted the role of selflessness in driving development projects, urging the community to invest in infrastructure such as churches and other critical facilities.

“The government will continue to support initiatives that lay the foundation for education, cooperation and development to ensure their success,” he stated.

Acknowledging the efforts of those who contributed to the construction of the Magomeni church, Dr Biteko remarked, “Some contributors chose not to be publicly recognised. Let us focus on doing good and being a blessing to others rather than causing harm.”

Pastor Dr Joel Okindo, Assistant Chairman of the Eastern and Central Division, encouraged congregants to embrace a spirit of volunteerism in development projects, emphasising the mandate to contribute to societal betterment.

He revealed that the construction of the SDA Church in Magomeni, initiated 12 years ago, is now over 90% complete, thanks to contributions from members, donors, and various leaders.

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr Albert Chalamila, used the event to address recent claims about an alleged kidnapping, clarifying that the incident involved a case of fraud.

“The individual claimed to be kidnapped had, in fact, sold a borrowed car. The vehicle has been recovered and the suspect will soon appear publicly to explain the incident,” Mr Chalamila said, assuring residents of Dar es Salaam’s safety.
