Birdi wins Kisarawe Rally to revive title chase
KISARAWE: ASAS Team wheeler, Manvir Birdi, has strongly revived his National Rally Championship (NRC) title campaign after winning the Kisarawe Rally in Pwani region over the weekend.
Navigated by Zubair Piredina in Skoda Fabia, Birdi won the rally after beating his closest challenger by more than four minutes.
Officially known as Euro Cables Kisarawe Rally, the two-day event served as the third round of this year’s National Rally V Championship staged after earlier two rounds in Iringa and Morogoro respectively.
“ I thank sponsors Asas for their backing. I hope to maintain this discipline in the remaining two rounds of the NRC,” he said.
Birdi won as the fastest driver with 04 minutes and 52 seconds superiority.
Second overall in Subaru Impreza G8 was Tufail Amin JR who clocked 4:52 minutes behind the winner under the guidance of Zubair Kara.
Tufail, however, won the NRC 3 title.
Third overall position was grabbed by Waleed Nahdi who finished 07:24 minutes behind the overall winners.
Dar es Salaam -based Charles Bicco and his navigator David Matete came in fourth overall with Subaru Impreza N12 after finishing almost ten minutes behind the winners.
“ It was a good outing and the car behaved well this time,” noted Matete after a podium finish.

Fifth overall in Mitsubishi EVO X was Harinder Deere who was navigated by Victor Jackson. The duo finished ahead of the sixth-placed Mussa Mswaki and his navigator Imran Chandoo in Subaru Impreza.
Seventh overall in Mitsubishi Evo X were Kartik Valambhia and Ethan Taylor from Morogoro.
The rally director, Irfaan Aladin who did a commendable job in preps for the event thanked sponsors Euro Cables, Picol, Azam TV for backing the event’s success.
He said he was impressed by the overall performance and safety measures implemented by both drivers and spectators.
“ It was specular rally as seven cars managed to finish the event out of 12 cars that attended the flag off this morning,” he noted.
Title favourite Ahmed Huwel and his Mkwawa Rally mate, Himid Mbatta suffered adversity after crashing out of the race in the early stages.
