- Simba to earn 20m/- from President Samia Suluhu Hassan
DAR ES SALAAM: Simba have been held to a 2-2 draw by Al Ahly in the inaugural match of the African Football League (AFL).
The duo have settled out their differences at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Friday evening.
Al Ahly made a breakthrough in the stoppage time of the first half courtesy of Moroccan player, Reda Slim.
In the second half, Simba’s striker Kibu Denis levelled the deficit to make it 1-1 before stretching the lead in the 59th minute through substitute Sadio Kanoute.
Four minutes later, Kharaba made it 2-2 for the visitors to balance the game.
The duo meet again in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday next week for the second leg as the winner progresses to the last four of the tournament.
Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi was the guest of honour for the game.
With the outcome, Simba have earned 20m/- from President Samia Suluhu Hassan as she pledged 10m/- for each goal to be netted by Simba in the tournament.
