Beach Games: Tanzania claims bronze
TANZANIA celebrated the weekend with a colourful representation of the national beach soccer team, winning a bronze medal in the 2nd African Beach Games Hammamet 2023.
This year’s tournament took action in Hammamet, Tunisia, from June 23rd to 30th.
The participating teams included Morocco, Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania and Libya. The games were played in a round-robin format, with each team facing the other.
Morroco won gold, and Senegal won silver. Tanzania took bronze, while Kenya seized fourth place and Libya fifth.
In the competitions, Tanzania won 5-3 against neighbours Kenya before destroying Libya by 9-3. Tanzania lost 6-4 to Morroco in their opening encounter before taking a huge 7-1 loss from Senegal.
Therefore, Tanzania had lodged 19 goals in four matches while conceding 19.
Apart from winning bronze, Tanzania star Juma Rajab had impressive start with six goals in four games he played.
Hassan Nassor and Mapunda Walles also lodged four goals for the team in four matches.
Out of 16 disciplines in Tunisia, Tanzania participated in only one event: Beach soccer for men.
The African Beach Games are qualifiers for the World Beach Games to be held in Bali, Indonesia, from August 5th to 12th this year.
