BDL Finals resume after NBL break, Dar City dominates

DAR ES SALAAM: THE 2024 Dar es Salaam Basketball League (BDL) finals initially postponed to accommodate the National Basketball League (NBL) women’s competition held in Dodoma last month, are set to resume today.

The BDL finals were at the playoff stage when Basketball Dar es Salaam (BD) paused the competition to allow top teams from the city to compete in the NBL.

The NBL concluded with Dar City claiming the men’s title, while ABC finished as runners-up, both teams hailing from Dar es Salaam.

In the women’s category, DB Lioness of Dar finished second behind new champions Fox Divas from Mara. BD Technical and Competition Director, Haleluya Kavalambi, announced the women’s final fixtures yesterday.

He said the first game is scheduled for today at 7:00 PM, pitting defending champions Vijana Queens against DB Lioness at the DB Upanga-B court.

On Sunday, the women’s third-place playoff between JKT Stars and DB Troncattti will take place at 5:00 PM at the same venue.

This will be followed by Game 2 of the finals at 7:00 PM, where Vijana Queens will once again face DB Lioness.

Game 3 will be played on December 10 in the best of five finals, which, if necessary, with additional matches (Game 4 and Game 5) slated for December 12 and December 14, respectively.

Kavalambi emphasised that the finals promise intense competition and excitement, marking the climax of a season featuring over 16 women’s teams’ battle it out for the first time in the league history.

This year’s women’s league has showcased impressive performances from semi-finalists JKT Stars, Vijana Queens, Don Bosco Lioness and DB Troncattti.

The teams have displayed exceptional skill and determination, earning their spots in the playoffs. Kavalambi encouraged the basketball enthusiasts to attend the games in big number and cheer for their favourite teams as the league wraps up.
