Barker demands consistency ahead of Coastal Union clash

DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA SC Head Coach Steve Barker has challenged his players to maintain absolute focus and discipline ahead of today’s Mainland Premier League clash against Coastal Union, insisting consistency is non-negotiable for their title charge.
Simba sit second in the standings on 52 points, trailing arch-rivals Young Africans SC by just two points after 23 matches. With seven games remaining, the race has effectively narrowed to a two-horse contest, though third-placed Azam FC remain a looming threat on 46 points.
Speaking during the prematch interview yesterday, Barker said Simba are in high spirits but warned that facing Coastal Union away from home would present a difficult challenge particularly they are battling for survival in the league standings.
“Teams fighting at the lower end of the table are always dangerous because every point matters to them. We have to respect our opponents, but at the same time focus on our own performance and execute our game plan properly.”
Barker noted that mental preparation would be just as important as tactical organisation if Simba are to secure maximum points from the encounter.
Coastal Union Head Coach Fikiri Elias says his side is fully prepared to pose “tough tactical questions” to Simba when the two teams meet today. Coastal Union are currently eleventh with 25 points from 23 games.
Elias said Coastal Union have worked extensively on their game plan and will approach the match with confidence, insisting they are targeting all three points rather than playing a supporting role.

“We have prepared well to challenge Simba. We will ask them difficult tactical questions over 90 minutes,” he said.
The Coastal Union coach stressed that his team do not intend to play as a “stepping stone” for any opponent, adding that their ambition is to secure maximum points to improve their league position.
“We do not want to be a bridge for anyone. We must fight for three points for our team and to improve our position,” he added.
Elias noted that each match carries its own demands and said his players are motivated by their current league standing, which he believes has boosted morale heading into the fixture.
He further said his side respects Simba but are ready for a full 90-minute contest, backed by strong preparation and belief in their ability to compete.
