BAKWATA calls on Tanzanians to continue safeguarding the country’s peace

DAR ES SALAAM: AS Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the Mufti of Tanzania, Abubakar Zubeir, has called on the believers and all Tanzanians to continue safeguarding the country’s peace, stressing its critical role in national development.

The Mufti delivered the message during the national Eid el Fitr prayers at the King Mohammed VI Mosque, located at the headquarters of the National Muslim Council of Tanzania (BAKWATA) in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam, during the national Eid al-Fitr congregation.

In his remarks, he also urged believers to offer prayers for President Samia Suluhu Hassan as she carries out her leadership duties.

Elaborating, he said that peace remains a strong foundation for sustainable development, warning that without it, progress cannot be achieved.

Eid al-Fitr is the first of the two main festivals in Islam, the other being Eid al-Adha.

The holiday falls on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.

One of the most important Islamic celebrations, Eid al-Fitr, is celebrated by Muslims worldwide as it marks the end of the month-long, dawn-to-dusk fasting (sawm) during Ramadan.

The holiday is known under various other names in different languages and countries around the world.
