Bagamoyo gets 660m/- for classroom projects

THE government has provided Bagamoyo District Council in Coast Region with 660m/- for the construction of 33 classrooms in secondary schools.

Council’s Chairman Mr Mohammed Usinga said at the council’s meeting held on Tuesday in Bagamoyo Town that the project is meant to ensure that all students selected to join secondary schools do so without any obstructions next January.

Mr Usinga said that the implementation of the project is going on well and that the work is expected to be completed before January next year.

“Our government is working hard to ensure that our children get good education in friendly environment.  Our responsibility is to make sure that this money is well spent,” he noted.

He insisted that the council will supervise the ongoing project closely, so as to come up with better results.

During the meeting, the council also launched the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) system, in all its meetings and daily routines.

The council reached the decision for having the system with the aim of saving money, which is currently spent on buying stationeries for writing reports and printing services, saving time and increasing efficiency in its day to day activities.

Speaking at the end of the meeting, District Executive Director (DED) Mr Shauri Selenda said that the council had spent 40m/- in procuring 40 tablets, which are going to be used by the councilors and heads of department.

“Today’s meeting has been quite different compared to the past meetings. All participants were able to follow up the presentations with much ease and we have been able to finish the meeting on time as we had planned,” he said.
