Bagamoyo DED reminds NGOs to abide by laws 

NON GOVERNMENTAL Organisations (NGOs) in Bagamoyo District, Coast Region have been reminded to abide by the country’s laws and ensure that their operations transform people’s lives.

District’s Executive Director (DED) Mr Shauri Selenda made the remarks during a meeting with leaders and representatives of NGOs in the district who were presenting their annual reports to the district council authorities in Bagamoyo Town this week.

“I am aware that your main objective is to support provision of services to the people in different areas. I am reminding you to work according to our country’s regulations and principles in order to achieve your goals, but also to maintain peace in your respective areas,” he said.

He further said “the government recognises and appreciates your contribution, that’s why it has been providing any support needed during the execution of your activities, but it will not hesitate to take stern measures against those who violate the principles”.

Presenting their reports for the financial year 2022/ 2023, leaders of the NGOs said that they were able to pay fees for 489 students in nursery, primary and secondary schools, whereby 207 of them are boys and 282 girls.

According to their reports, they have also managed to reach out to the communities with education on social issues especially on issues related to children rights, gender violence, inheritance and entrepreneurship.

They also reported that a total of 3,408 individuals had received training on land issues since the district is one of the leading areas with land conflicts in the country. In addition to that, a total of 437 youths have also been trained by the NGOs to create awareness about the forthcoming population and housing census.

The NGOs which attended the meeting included Rafiki Tanzania (RATA), Moyo Mmoja, Dynamic Women For Productive Initiative (DWOPRI) and Amazing Step For Children Foundation.

For her part, District’s Coordinator for NGOs who is also the Head of Community Development Officer Ms Delvin Maleko expressed gratitude to the organisations’ leaders for working together with the government in serving people, pledging to address various challenges facing them.
