Bagamoyo DC sets goals for improving tourism activities

BAGAMOYO District Council has allocated a total of 370m/- to be spent in 2022/2023 financial year in improving different tourist attraction sites in the district for financial year 2022/ 2023.

Bagamoyo District Executive Director (DED) Shauri Selenda said at a recent council’s meeting that the objective is to attract more tourists and increase income.

One of the sites which will be upgraded is infamous BADECO recreational Park in Bagamoyo Town.

He said that the council is supporting President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts in promoting tourism activities in the country through a number of ways including continuing to put Bagamoyo Town on the spotlight. The Head of State, when preparing a Royal Tour programme, also visited Bagamoyo Stone Town.

“We intend to expand tourism activities in our district and support our President’s initiatives in promoting the sector in the country,” he said.

Earlier, Council’s Chairman Mr Mohammed Usinga requested the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism to ensure that all historical buildings in Bagamoyo Old Town are rehabilitated to make them attractive again and last for generations to come.

During the meeting, Tanzania Rural Roads Agency (TARURA) District Acting Manager Eng Juliana Masaro said that the office had received a total of 1bn/- for implementing various road projects for the financial year 2022/ 2023.

On the other hand, the council has received a total of 500m/- from the Constituent Fund, which will be used for the installment of street lights in Bagamoyo Town.
