Bagamoyo allocates 1.1bn/- for health

BAGAMOYO: BAGAMOYO Town Council has allocated 1.1bn/- to expand the district hospital and build a new health centre in Kisutu Ward during the 2026/27 financial year as part of efforts to improve health services.

Speaking to the Daily News following a recent council meeting, Council Development Executive Director Mr Shauri Selenda said 600m/- would be used to construct the health centre, while 500m/- would finance the expansion of the district hospital.

“The construction of the health centre at Kisutu Ward will help ease congestion at our district hospital. On the other hand, the other 500 million shillings will be used to add new buildings and improve services at our district hospital,” he said.

Mr Selenda said the council had also allocated 300m/- for construction of a storey building at a secondary school in Mapinga Ward to prepare for the admission of Form One students in the coming academic year.

He said the council had exceeded its own-source revenue target of 8bn/- for 2025/26, collecting 9bn/- by June, equivalent to 104 per cent of the target.

For the 2026/27 financial year, the council is targeting 10.2bn/- in own-source revenue, with 40 per cent expected to be directed towards development projects.

Mr Selenda said Bagamoyo was poised for increased economic activity following the implementation of strategic infrastructure projects, including the proposed 100-kilometre Makofia–Mlandizi–Mzenga–Maneromango road.

He said the feasibility study for the road, which will link Bagamoyo, Kibaha and Kisarawe districts, had been completed.

Meanwhile, District Administrative Secretary (DAS) Ms Stella Msofe, said authorities were working to find a lasting solution to conflicts between farmers and livestock keepers.

She also directed authorities to identify designated areas for extracting construction materials such as sand and gravel to prevent environmental damage.

“We have a master plan for our town. What we are required to do is identify all areas where these mining activities take place,” she said.

Ms Msofe said proper identification and management of such areas would help protect the environment and create better conditions for attracting investors.
