DAR ES SALAAM: AZAM have a chance to unseat Young Africans at the top of the Mainland Premier League log if they manage to outclass KMC in a late match at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam today.
A win by Azam takes them to 25 points from 11 matches, one point above Yanga who have 24 points after nine encounters.
It is therefore an important game for the hosts who face a side that has been remarkable so far in the league and they are currently placed on fifth with 19 points.
At a pre-match briefing yesterday in the city, Azam Coach, Bruno Ferry, said they respect KMC as they have a good ride in the league and that the former need to have a good mindset in order to emerge winners.
“I have told the players to fully focus on the pitch and that is the most important thing to us; there is no an easy games in this league; all teams are good and we need to defend well against them (KMC),” Ferry, who won the coach of November award said.
He added that if they win today’s match and seize command of the league does not mean they are champions, saying there are still many matches in the season, so they have to take one game at a time.
His player, Lusajo Mwaikenda, revealed that they are well drilled for the match and are optimistic to get tangible results after the final whistle.
“In modern football, teamwork matters most, such that when it is time to defend, then we should all do that task other than leaving it to defenders alone,” Mwaikenda said.
On his part, KMC Coach, Abdulhamid Moallin, revealed that basing on the preparations they have had prior to the match, he is confident that they will get positive outcome to bag maximum points.
“Of course, Azam are a good side, especially when playing at their backyard, but we have created our plan of which we need to execute in order to cherish victory, but it is going to be a tough match,” Moallin who faces his ex-employer said.
KMC’s player, Waziri Junior remarked that they will try to put in practice what they have been getting at the training pitch for the sake of winning the duel.
From their three past league games, the Kinondoni-based team have garnered four points from possible nine ones, after losing 2-1 to Dodoma Jiji, stamping a 1-1 draw against Kagera Sugar before defeating Mashujaa 3-2 in their recent clash.
