Azam players impress coach

ZANZIBAR: AZAM FC Coach, Youssouph Dabo has said that he is impressed with the competitive spirit of his players, as they intensify preparations ahead of the action packed next season.

The Chamazi-based outfits are currently in Zanzibar for a brief pre-season drill and will later head to Morocco where they intend to wrap up preparations before embracing the new campaign.

Speaking yesterday, Dabo disclosed that the battle to earn playing time in the first lineup is tense a thing he said is good to create a competitive team.

“I admit that the new players we have signed are slowly catching up with our system of play and as the technical bench, we are working hard to ensure that they get into the formula as fast as possible.

“We have just started our pre-season and now, we have 23 players in the team… honestly, I like each player’s fighting spirit when it comes to securing position in the first team.

“Last season, we had only 16 players and we were compelled to feature some players from our academy, but now things are unfolding well in the team and we have enough players,” Dabo said.

He continued: “With this situation, no one is going to relax because if you do so, you will lose the opportunity to start in the first line-up.

I am pleased with this situation.” In another development, Azam confirmed that winger Kipre Junior has joined Algerian side MC Alger and they wished him all the best in his new endeavors.

The Ivorian player had a remarkable 2023/24 Premier League season, after recording nine assists to his name and netted nine goals in the process.

“Of course, he is a good player such that each team would like to have a player of his calibre but as you know, football is business and we wish him well,” said Azam’s Media and Communication Manager, Hasheem Ibwe.
