DAR ES SALAAM – Azam disrupted Simba’s chase for the Premier League after forcing them to a 2-2 draw in a fiercely fought encounter at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium this evening.
The draw means Simba have dropped two crucial points in the race dominated by their rivals Young Africans commanding 55 points upfront. Despite the draw, Simba continue to claim the second place with 51 points.
Simba, who played their 20th game today, have dropped 9 points after one loss and three draws.
Azam looked determined to win the game right from the start and their determination earned them an opener 9 minutes after the start.
Gibril Syllar opened Azam’s goal account in the 9th but their lead survived for only 18 minutes when Elie Mpanzu equalised for Simba in the 27th minute.
The score remained unchanged until the end of the first half,
Simba began the second half a rejuvenated side as most of the time they were pressing for the second goal.
Simba’s efforts paid off in the 77th minute when Mpanzu netted his team’s second goal.
As everyone thought Simba have secured a hard-earned victory, Azam brought Simba fans to tears when they equalized in the stoppage time.
