‘Avoid flares in Yanga vs Gallants’

YOUNG Africans have cautioned their fans to avoid using fireworks and laser-pointing lights during CAF Confederation Cup matches to escape penalties imposed by the continent’s football governing body.
This comes shortly after CAF fined the club 35,000 US Dollars as a penalty for displaying fireworks and laser pointing lights during their Confederation Cup’s quarter-final match against Rivers United.
In his reaction on Monday, Yanga’s Media and Communication Manager Ali Kamwe admitted to have been fined and cautioned time is here for their fans to refrain from using any unwanted materials in international matches.
“We should not seek troubles, if they say these things are not needed in games, we should refrain from embracing them.
“I, therefore, would like to request our members and fans that none of them should bring fireworks or laser pointing lights in the upcoming match versus Marumo Gallants on Wednesday,” he said.
He added that instead, they should come with usual cheering means such as drums, whistles and trumpets so as to escape such fines and at the same time protect the image of the club.
Moreover, he insisted that since the season’s Confederation Cup final will be played in home and-away basis, it could be embarrassing to miss the opportunity of playing at home if they excel to reach the final.
However, on the upcoming game, he reiterated that players are adjusting well to training programmes as they want to stamp a big win to ease their return leg clash.
“This is a big moment not only for the club but also the country at large because if we manage to do well in both legs, we are set to reach the finals,” he said.
To reach this far, Yanga knocked out Rivers United with a 2-0 aggregate win after producing a convincing away victory in Nigeria where they cherished a 2-0 success while the reverse duel at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam elapsed goalless.
Meanwhile, Kamwe said Marumo Gallants are scheduled to land in the country today ready for the action-packed game.
In the 16-team South Africa Premier Division, Gallants are sitting in 14th place with 29 points from 29 matches and are just three points above the bottom-placed Maritzburg United.
Though they seem to be struggling in the domestic league, Gallants have had an outstanding performance in the confederation cup and are not a team to be underrated.
They topped Group A with 12 points from six games after registering four wins and two defeats.
