AU, Global Water Partnership decorate President Samia

DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has been awarded the Presidential Global Water Changemakers Award 2025, the highest honour in water by the Global Water Partnership in collaboration with the African Union.

The award was presented by the chairman of the Presidential Global Water Changemakers Awards 2025, Botswana’s President, Duma Boko and was received by Tanzania’s High Commissioner to South Africa, James Bwana on behalf of President Samia.

The colorful awarding event took place during the AU–AIP Africa Water Investment Summit 2025 taking place in Cape Town, South Africa.

According to information from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, the award recognizes President Samia’s significant leadership and reforms in the water sector, including the construction of water infrastructure, expansion of water supply across the country and innovative financing through the issuance of a Green Bond by the Tanga Water Authority.

Other leaders honored for their contributions to the development of the water sector in their respective countries include, the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia and King Letsie III of Lesotho.

Among the many guests and participants in the commit, was Former President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, who also serves as Co-Chair of the High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa.

Approximately 600 participants from various countries took part in the meeting, including King Mswati III of Eswatini, who joined President Boko in presenting the award.
