DAR ES SALAAM: THE Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) has encouraged employers in the country, both public and private institutions, to participate in promoting and supporting efforts to improve mental health in workplaces.
The remark was made over the weekend in Dar es Salaam by ATE’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Advocate Suzanne Ndomba-Doran at the launch of ‘Waajiri Health Bonanza 2023, a bonanza aimed at promoting mental wellness for better performance at the workplace.
Adv Ndomba-Doran said it is high time for employers to encourage and support efforts to improve mental health in workplaces.
“Mental health conditions can have substantial effects on all areas of life, such as school or work performance, relationships with family and friends and ability to participate in the community activities,” the report reads in part.
She underlined the significance of employers’ deep focus on healthy workforce, particularly mental health, adding the healthy workforce is an investment.
“We encourage companies and various institutions to participate in promoting and supporting the efforts to improve mental health in their workplaces,” she said.
In particular, she said the climax of this year’s bonanza themed ‘promoting mental wellness for better performance at workplace’ will be graced by the Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on October 7th this year.
Moreover, she added that the bonanza will also involve various activities, such as health testing, which will be accompanied by advice from health professionals.
In a related development, ATE boss also pointed out the reasons behind the establishment of the bonanza including to raise awareness on health issues and safety in workplaces as well as bring about discussion about the importance of mental health in workplaces.
He further said this year’s bonanza will coincide with the celebration of customer service week, which for this year carries the theme of “Team Service.”
Adv Ndomba-Doran noted that in making bonanza unique, ATE will collaborate with Labour and Employment stakeholders including the Prime Minister’s Office Labour, Youth Employment and People with Disabilities and Workers Compensation Fund (WCF).
