ASFC: Singida first to grab semis spot

SINGIDA Big Stars handed Mbeya City a 4-1 blitz to become the first team to claim the semis ticket of this season’s Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) in thrilling encounter staged at Liti Stadium in Singida yesterday.

It looked right from the start that Singida Big Stars would win by a big margin as they were leading 3-0 at the end of the first half.

Singida Big Stars opened their goal account early in the 7th minute through Bruno Gomez, who fired home through a freekick.

It did not take long for Singida Big Stars to double the lead as three minutes later through striker Bright Adjei in the 10th minute, who  completed Nickson Kibabage’s set piece from the left flank.

Franck Kazadi completed the first half’s goal festival with the third goal for Singida Big Stars, finishing Kibabage’s assist.

The second half saw Mbeya City coming strongly with series of well- planned raids and their efforts paid in the 50th minute when they scored their opener through Eliud Ambokile.

But their joy was short lived as Singida Big Stars’ Gomes netted his team’s fourth goal in the 60th. .

To reach this stage, the Singida-based giants ousted JKT Tanzania 1-0 while Mbeya City hammered Kagera Sugar 1-0.

The action continues today when Azam entertain Mtibwa Sugar at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam in another tough duel to both teams.

Then on Friday, Simba will take on Ihefu at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam and a day later, the defending champions Young Africans play against Geita Gold at Azam Complex in the city.

These two games have been delayed to provide enough preparation space for Simba and Yanga who represent the country in CAF Interclub Games and had away matches to complete group stage clashes.

However, according to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Competitions Manager Baraka Kizuguto, Nangwanda Sijaona Stadium in Mtwara and Liti Stadium in Singida are two venues to host semifinal games.

Also, Kizuguto disclosed that this year’s ASFC finals will unfold at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga.

The last-16 ASFC campaign has witnessed 20 goals being netted in various venues across the country as Simba and Yanga emerged the heavy winners in the process.

The Msimbazi Street Reds, who were the first side to book a quarterfinals ticket, defeated African Sport 4-0 at Uhuru Stadium in the city Yanga battered Tanzania Prisons 4-1 at Azam Complex.

Another side which stamped a big win was Geita Gold who outsmarted Green Warriors 3-1 at Nyankumbu Stadium in Geita as they too showcase massive performance aiming at lifting the title.

On the other hand, Ihefu and Azam cherished 2-0 victories apiece against Pan African and Mapinduzi while narrow wins were produced by Singida Big Stars (1-0) against JKT Tanzania, Mbeya City (1-0) versus Kagera Sugar and Mtibwa Sugar (1-0) over KMC.
