ASFC Final: TFF clarifies on date reschedule

THE Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) said the commencement of FIFA dates on June 12th is the reason they have opted to place the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) final on the same day.

This season’s ASFC final will be played at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga on June 12th this year pitting holders Young Africans against Azam which are expected to battle for the championship.

However, in his clarification recently in Dar es Salaam, the federation’s Competitions Manager Salum Madadi said with the start of the FIFA dates, they have seen it necessary to stage the finals on June 12th so that clubs should not miss services of their foreign based players.

“We cannot get problems with either CAF or FIFA if we delay the finals but the main challenge is with the clubs because some of Yanga and Azam players are called to their respective national teams hence from June 12th, they will begin to be wanted by their respective national teams,” he said.

Moreover, Madadi disclosed that the 2022/23 Premier League Awards presentation gala    is set on June 12th in Tanga.

He said the event will be staged at the federation’s newly built Technical Sports Centre located at Mnyanyani area.

“We have developed a new system of staging the ceremony on the last day of the season.

“In this case, the current season will end on June 12th after witnessing federation cup finals between Yanga against Azam,” he said.

He also elaborated that it is going to be an opportunity for people to admire massive investment at the Technical Centre whose construction went abreast with that of Kigamboni in Dar es Salaam.

The construction of the Technical Centre in Tanga went simultaneously with its twin building located in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam.

They are both meant to accelerate the growth of football sector in the country as they have required facilities for the flourish of football.

However, to reach this far, Yanga defeated Singida Big Stars 1-0 at Liti Stadium in Singida while Azam bundled out Simba 2-1 in a sparkling semifinal match at Nangwanda Sijaona Stadium in Mtwara.
