Arusha reaps fortune from conference tourism

ARUSHA: THE Arusha Regional Commissioner, Amos Makala, has said that continued hosting of meetings and conferences in the region has generated significant economic and social opportunities for local residents.
Speaking today, March 25, 2026, at the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) hall during the 110th National Public Education Stakeholders Conference, the RC thanked public and private institutions for choosing Arusha as the host city for multiple conferences and conventions.
Mr Makalla further said that the recent visits of the Prime Minister, Mwigulu Nchemba has brought tangible benefits to the region.
“Arusha is safe, calm, and continues to benefit from conference tourism. As regional officials, we pledge to fully oversee development projects and resolve citizens’ concerns. Arusha is also ready to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference,” he said.

Commenting on the National Public Education Stakeholders Conference taking place, he said that public education is key to tackling social challenges such as gender-based violence, land conflicts, inheritance and family disputes, and other issues, while advancing national development agendas.
The conference has brought together over 250 participants, equipping them with skills in communication, data privacy protection, artificial intelligence (AI) applications, stress management, and strategic communication during and after conflicts.
