Arusha City face Nyota in Super Cup final

THE Arusha City Soccer Team will face the Nyota in the final round of the Mega Arusha Super Cup tomorrow.

The final match will be played at the Field Force Unit (FFU) grounds in the Morombo section in the southern outskirts of Arusha city.

The epic football event is the maiden soccer feat organised by the Arusha District Football Association.

The Mega Arusha Super Cup has been running for more than a month since its kick off on June 18th this year.

Twenty  football teams have been engaged in this year’s Mega Arusha Super Cup, according to the organisers.

The Competition Committee Chairperson of Arusha District Football Association (ADFA), Frank Michael Luholela said the Mega Arusha Soccer Cup will now be an annual event.

“This has been the highly competitive football event this season,” he said, adding that the league has also encountered several challenges, but it was suffice to say that football is back in Arusha with aplomb.

The final game between Nyota and Arusha City is the most anticipated big game in the region so far because the two municipal-based clubs have so far faced each other in three previous matches during the season.

Each team managed to win two games while drawing in one game.

The Arusha City Coach Mahsen Bawazir said for the final game, his team is upbeat to win, because of their good preparations.

But the Nyota Secretary, Ezekiel Kidenya believes that it is his team poised to take the trophy because they have studied their opponents.

On her part, the Deputy Chairperson of Arusha District Football Association, Isabela Mwampamba said the Arusha Super Cup has been listed in the ADFA calendar for three years.

It runs under the sponsorship of Mega FM Arusha.

She said the event includes children, youths, women and veterans. “The league is meant to develop and promote sports talents as well as encourage the community to support soccer in the district.”

The winner of the tournament will pocket in 1m/- cash prize and a trophy.

The runner up will be awarded 500,000/-, while all the eight teams that managed to enter into quarter finals will be awarded sets of playing kit.

Other lucrative prizes will be awarded to the best coach, best scorer and the best goalkeeper of the event.

Participating teams include Sachoni FC, Nyota FC, Upendo Friends, New Hope, Njiro All-Star, Home Team, AICC Kijenge, Old Boys, Soweto, Sorenyi and Arusha Technical College.

Others are the Institute of Accounts Arusha, Kitambi Noma, Moshono, Arusha City, Engo Rising, Suye All Stars, Lengijave, Twins, Chabol, Arabic and Azimio FC.
