AN ardent fan of Simba identified as Audax Alphonce (24), is on his 12-day journey from Bukoba to Dar es Salaam to attend Simba Day celebration on August 8th this year.
His long journey will cover 1,500 kilometres from Bukoba to Dar es Salaam via Geita, Mwanza, Shinyanga, Tabora, Singida, Dodoma, Morogoro and Coast regions.
Simba SC official based in Bukoba, Benson Eustace told the ‘Daily News’ that Alphonce left Bukoba town on July 2nd this year heading to Dar es Salaam.
According to Eustace, the fan has three main intentions; to visit Simba headquarters where he will meet and hold discussions with top club’s officials and ultimately attend Simba Day celebrations.
Alphonce was also quoted as saying before starting his 1,500km journey: “in case I die, I want Simba flag to be hoisted on my grave.”
Meanwhile, a contingent of eight boxers and two officials from Mwanza arrived in Bukoba yesterday for a friendly boxing bonanza to be held at the Mashujaa Stadium here today.
An organiser of the tournament, Robert Kyaruzi, explained that the bonanza will start at 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. pitting boxers from Mwanza and host Zaagwaa Boxing Club of Kagera.
Kagera region has a long history by producing top boxers including tha late William Majwala, who was also the national boxing coach, the late Aloyce Nuti, Leonidace Njunwa and John Kaijanante, among others.
