Another acid test for Simba, Yanga

THE NBC Premier League enters its second round when six teams play in three separate venues today.

Holders Young Africans have a difficult exercise to pass as they face Coastal Union at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha with both teams eyeing to maintain unbeaten status after winning their respective opening matches.

In another match, former champions Simba stay put at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam for the second match of the campaign welcoming Kagera Sugar in a breath-taking match since whenever the duo meet, one expects a hot duel.

At Liti Stadium in Singida, Dodoma Jiji entertain Tanzania Prisons as both of them will be hunting for first maximum points after losing their opening games.

Dodoma Jiji lost 3-1 to  Mbeya City while Tanzania Prisons suffered a 1-0 loss to Singida Big Stars.

However, the Coastal Union against Yanga likely to be a replica of the  dramatic Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) final when the two teams clashed out at the same pitch with the Yanga winning 4-1 on post-match penalties.

In his game’s preview, Coastal Union Head Coach Juma Mgunda said they are aware how tough it is to play Yanga in competitive matches, but his side is well prepared to claim the maximum points.

“Yanga are one of the best teams in the league with quality players and experienced technical bench, but we are ready to face them even though my team is fresh after injecting seven new players,” he said.

In their league opener, the Tanga-based outfits defeated KMC 1-0 at Sheikh Amri Abeid venue thanks to a smartly taken penalty by Moubarack Amza in the 37th minute.

Their opponents Yanga outplayed Polisi Tanzania 2-1 at the same pitch hence who pocket essential points in today’s thrilling encounter remain a debatable topic whose solution will be known after normal period of play.

On the other hand, Simba are keen to continue shinning at Benjamin Mkapa turf looking forward to record a successive win of the season against Kagera Sugar in another pick of the day league match.

After outclassing Geita Gold 3-0 with goals from Augustine Okrah, Moses Phiri and Clatous Chama, the Reds have another puzzling match at their disposal to grab three points and extend unbeaten run to two matches.

In Singida, both Dodoma Jiji and Tanzania Prisons are looking for their first wins after a poor start in the league’s opening matches.
