Angry citizens kill two suspected thieves

PEOPLE took law into their hands here Mwanza recently, beating to death two suspected thieves.

Mwanza Regional Police Commander Wilbroad Mtafungwa made the statement yesterday at the press conference.

Mr Mtafungwa pointed out that the police force was investigating the incident and was searching all people involved in such killing.

One of the deceased, Hakimu Joseph (24),was stoned in the midnight of March 24 (last week) after he was allegedly caught stealing at the farm inputs shop located at Buhongwa Market in Nyamagana District which belongs to Ms. Aziza Sadick.

Joseph was reported to break into the shop through the roof and ceiling board in an attempt to steal 600,000/- and a mobile phone used for mobile financial transactions.

The accused was later on stoned while trying to escape through the roof by using the similar hole he used to penetrate earlier, however, he fell down after being heavily stoned.

RPC Mtafungwa said the accused was then rushed to Bugando Referral Hospital by the police forces who were in the daily security patrol in nearby area, but he died while on the way.

On the same day, another accused, David Degogratius (32), was caught with the stolen television flat screen by angry citizens who also attacked him with traditional weapons after realizing that he was the one who broke into Mr. Octavius Eustace’s house and stole his property. Deogratius also died while taking treatment at Bugando Referral Hospital.
