AngloGold Ashanti’s Vice President visits Geita Mining Technology Exhibition

GEITA: AngloGold Ashanti’s Vice President of Sustainability for Tanzania and Ghana, Simon Shayo, on Friday visited the sixth Geita Mining Technology Exhibition and met with some of the exhibitors to learn about their innovations.

He also visited the pavilion offering free cancer screening services to the people of Geita, a collaboration between GGML and the Geita Regional Referral Hospital. This is part of GGML’s commitment to sustainability and improving the health and well-being of our community.

Shayo also received information from Dr Pasclates Ijumba, Coordinator of Medical Services at the Geita Referral Hospital, who emphasised that early detection through the screening services offered at the exhibition is key to the treatment of potential cancers.

“We are calling on people to take advantage of this opportunity, especially considering that the problem of cancer is still growing every year, so it is good to get screened and treated early and treat it completely, but if it is delayed, it is not curable and its treatment is a big cost to our society,” said Dr Pasclates Ijumba
