All set for Simba, Yanga derby

DAR ES SALAAM: AS the clock ticks down to the highly anticipated traditional derby clash between Simba and Young Africans, the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) has announced that preparations for the big match have reached 80 per cent completion.

The two heavyweight clubs in the country will settle their differences at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam tomorrow in a solo Premier League match of the day.

Whenever the two sides meet, it is never an easy match, and as such the entire football fraternity within and outside the country awaits a highly competitive encounter.

The board’s Information Officer, Karim Boimanda, elaborated yesterday in Dar es Salaam on the preparations for the duel, stating that everything is proceeding well, and preparations are at an advanced stage.

“So far, preparations are at 80 per cent, and things are going according to plan…this is our national identity match, hence we need to ensure that we give it the status it deserves,” he said.

Boimanda also disclosed that gates into the stadium will be opened from 10:00 am to allow easy entrance for people ready to watch the classic derby match, which is set to kick off at 5:00 pm.

“Those who come early will be exposed to different activities that have been lined up before the game, and I can assure them that they will not be bored while waiting for the match,” he said.

Regarding security, he revealed that it will be strengthened before, during and after the match to ensure that people can return to their homes safely without facing any troubles.

Boimanda also took the opportunity to urge fans to behave responsibly and accept the result of the match with grace.

“As Tanzanians, we are always known for the love we have for each other, and the same thing should be applied at the stadium, not giving room for any misbehaviour,” he insisted.

However, the winning side on the day will create a three-point lead at the top of the table, while a draw will see both teams accumulating 19 points after eight matches for Yanga and seven encounters for Simba.

Simba still have a match to play that could give them the advantage to extend their point gap with their traditional rivals only if they win.

In terms of scored goals, Yanga has netted 20 goals against 16 goals converted by their opponents who are eager to extend their unbeaten run of the season to seven games.
