DAR ES SALAAM: AIRTEL Tanzania is intensifying efforts to combat mobile fraud and raise awareness about secure communication services nationwide, in line with the directive from the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA).
The 2023 police statistics show that some 5.067bn/- was stolen through mobile money networks, bank transfers and automated teller machines (ATMs).
Airtel Tanzania Director of Customer Experience Adriana Lyamba said TCRA’s Communication Statistics Report for the quarter ending September, they managed to reduce fraudulent attempts by 44 per cent from 6,069 to 3,408 cases.
“This will spark important conversations about cybersecurity and empower customers to identify and avoid mobile fraud. We ensure that suspected fraudsters are swiftly located and brought to justice with improved digital surveillance and tracking mechanisms,” Ms Lyamba said over the weekend.

She said they utilise tools like bulk messaging, direct customer calls and support through their service centres to educate and empower customers.
Additionally, Airtel Money platform has self-reversal features that enable customers to quickly correct transactions if they mistakenly send money to the wrong recipient.
