Airtel Africa, UNICEF join forces to transform education

Airtel Africa, a leading telecommunications and mobile money services provider operating in 14 African countries, has marked significant achievements in its five-year partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), aimed at transforming education across the continent.

Since its launch in 2021, the initiative has connected over 1,500 schools to the internet, trained 17,000 teachers, and provided nearly one million learners across 13 African countries with access to quality digital education resources.

The partnership, backed by Airtel Africa’s USD 57-million-investment, is focused on bridging the digital divide for vulnerable children in remote communities.

Collaborating with African governments, it prioritizes equitable learning opportunities through access to online educational platforms, teacher training, and zero-rated digital learning tools.

Speaking on the achievements during this year’s World Children’s Day celebrations, Airtel Africa CEO Sunil Taldar highlighted the transformative impact of the program.

“Our mission is to transform lives, and through our collaboration with UNICEF, we are witnessing the profound impact that connectivity and digital resources can have on Africa’s children and teachers. For every school connected and every teacher trained, we are taking meaningful steps toward bridging the digital divide and advancing educational equality,” he said.

Mr Taldar emphasized the importance of equipping schools with internet connectivity and empowering teachers with digital skills, particularly in underserved and remote regions.
