TANZANIA: TANZANIA faces Angola in the classification play-off match of the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON) at Katameya Club in Cairo, Egypt today.

The game is intended to establish teams that will occupy fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth slots of this year’s competitive contest as Egypt take on Liberia in another classification play-off.

The country’s envoys known as Tembo Warriors missed out on a chance to reach the semi-finals after succumbing to a 4-1 defeat from Uganda in a knock-out match on Thursday.

A win by Tanzania in today’s encounter will see them playing against either Egypt or Liberia who interface in another play-off duel.

Both Tanzania and Angola were packed in group D of the competition alongside Sierra Leone who failed to stamp a win in their two played encounters. In their opening fixture, Tembo Warriors stunned Sierra Leone 2-0 before suffering a 2-1 upset from Angola and with 3 points, they qualified for the knock-out phase where they went down 4-1 to Uganda.

At a post-match briefing after the Uganda loss, Tembo Warriors coach Salvatory Edward said they are looking forward to upsetting Angola.

“We intended to win the title but abruptly, we have reversed our objective and now, we just need to work hard to at least secure a fifth place,” he said.

Moreover, the coach reiterated that they have not yet lost hope of earning an opportunity to advance to the World Cup as the top seven teams will make it through.

Meanwhile, Algeria and Ghana will lock horns in the first semi-final match before witnessing Morocco against Nigeria who battle up in the second last-four clash.

This is the first edition of the international competition of amputee football national men’s teams in Africa. The competition would also decide which teams will qualify for the WAFF World Cup 2026
