MWANZA Region marked two years of Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan’s presidency by highlighting improvement of social services provision, including clean water, electricity, health and education sectors.

Progress of press freedom as well as freedom of expression is the blueprint for citizen economic wellbeing that President Samia is committed to achieve.

Several residents of Mwanza have commended implementation progress of all strategic development projects, including the iconic MV Mwanza ‘Hapa Kazi Tu’ and the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, citing their good progress as clear indication of the six phase government’s commitment to advancing the living standard of ‘wananchi.’

Mwanza Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Adam Malima said recently during a symposium organised by the region to mark two years of President Samia in office that Mwanza is rejoicing in social, economic and political transformation.

Mr Malima said Dr Samia’s presidency is centered and committed on improving citizen’s living standard through provision of better social services, including clean water, expansion of school and road networks as well as her government’s industrious efforts to ensure the country continues to generate enough electricity to ease living costs and boost economic productivity.

“Economic development is when social services reach people without discrimination, this is what President Samia is doing. Her government provides services to both rural and urban areas, we see addition of classrooms everywhere,” RC, Mr Malima said.

He said so far, the Butimba Water Project worth 69bn/- is on impressive implementation, saying upon completion, it will extend clean water access in Mwanza Region to better citizens’ livelihoods.

Mr Malima appreciated Dr Samia for her unique leadership of leading by example which acts as compass direction for other leaders and citizens to follow to bring the expected results.

Mwanza Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority’s (MWAUWASA) Director of Water Supply and Sanitation Management, Eng Salim Lossindilo told the ‘Daily News’ that the Butimba Mega Water Project has reached 72 per cent of implementation and is expected to be completed by July this year.

The project is expected to benefit about 400,000 people in Mwanza.

“We thank the government for dishing out funds that has enabled the project to continue smoothly. Upon completion, this project will enable residents of Mwanza to have access to clean and safe water for healthier lives,” he added.

Meanwhile, Marine Service Company Limited’s (MSCL) Chief Executive Officer, Mr Eric Hamissi said the six phase government continues to invest enough on marine transport by adding more modern vessels, including the state- of- the- art MV Mwanza ‘Hapa Kazi Tu’ worth 109bn/-.

The vessel which is now floating on the Lake Victoria for final construction, has reached 82 percent. The giant ship is expected to hub the lake zone as a business focal point.

For his part, Tanzania Road National Agency’s (TANROAD) Mwanza Regional Manager, Eng Paschal Ambrose noted that the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, which will cost 716bn/- upon completion, has so far reached 70 per cent in comparison to 24 per cent when Dr Samia ascended to power.

He said so far the projects have created 1058 employment opportunities, of which 966 are local employees from every corner of the country, who have been earning their living while acquiring construction skills for future major strategic project implementation.

SAUT FM’s Managing Director, Dotto Bulendu noted that Samia’s presidency has observed an increasingly freedom of expression and press that include the lift of a ban for some media outlets.

She also restored the Bunge live coverage, noting that Dr Samia’s moves are necessary in rebuilding media prosperity.

“It should well be understood that the media as the fourth estate, must be independent for transparency and accountability enforcement that must result into an informed society,” he said.

Head of History Department of Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), Prof Eginald Mihanjo commended President Samia’s initiative on her spearheading role on ensuring that all the strategic projects among other development are implemented in line with the country’s 2025 Development Vision and the CCM 2020/2025 manifesto, which aim at building a self-sufficient economy which will benefit present and future generations.

“Dr Samia’s effective utilization of the country’s geographical advantages is smoothly enhancing the country’s inclusive development and indeed, the economic ripples will further go down to the people,” Prof Mihanjo said.

For his part, a political analyst and public relation expert, Mr Merdad Wilfred commended President Dr Samia’s outstanding leadership on rebuilding the country’s political environment.

He mentioned reopening of political rallies and her direct participation in opposition parties’ events that include gracing the CHADEMA Party women wing, BAWACHA meeting in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region. He described it as a symbol that brings all Tanzanians together in building the nation.

“Inclusive and open political atmosphere brings inclusive economic production, peace and security for all citizens,” said Mr Wilfred said.

Samia was sworn in as the sixth president of the United Republic of Tanzania on 19th 2021, following the death of President Dr John Magufuli.
