Absa pushes digital access to reach more people

DAR ES SALAAM: ABSA Bank Tanzania is intensifying its digital transformation efforts, expanding its card-based banking platforms to enhance service quality and make digital financial solutions more accessible and affordable for customers across the country.

Absa’s Director of Retail Banking, Ms Ndabu Swere, yesterday in Dar es Salaam highlighted the bank’s push to promote digital banking during an awards ceremony for winners of the ongoing ‘Play Your Card Rights’ campaign, launched on September 30 to encourage customers to use cards and other digital channels.

“We are strengthening our digital banking services platforms to deliver faster, more accessible and affordable card-based solutions for all Tanzanians,” she said.

Ms Swere said the initiative aligns with the bank’s broader mission of ‘Empowering Africa’s tomorrow, together… one step at a time.’

Ms Swere added that the campaign also recognises and rewards customers for actively engaging with the bank’s services, emphasising Absa’s unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional service and empowering customers to achieve their financial goals.

She added that, alongside the main campaign, the bank is spotlighting the Absa Infinite Card, a premium debit and credit option available in Tanzanian Shillings or US Dollars, crafted to deliver elevated financial services for high-net-worth clients.

Absa’s Card Issuing Manager, Ms Erica Mwaipopo, noted that Mr Felician Hechei topped the promotion, securing a fully funded trip for himself and a companion to South Africa later this month to attend the internationally renowned ‘Absa Champagne Africa’ festival an experience the bank describes as a testament to the value of active engagement in its digital initiatives.

“The Infinite Credit Card is tailored for customers seeking exclusivity, security and global access, offering benefits such as international travel insurance, access to over 1,200 airport lounges, shopping discounts, ticket-cancellation coverage and extended warranty protection,” she said.

Absa’s Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Mr Aron Luhanga, said the event underscores the bank’s dedication to its brand promise, ‘Your Story Matters,’ noting that celebrating customers in this way reflects Absa Tanzania’s commitment to acknowledging and elevating their achievements.

For his part, Dr Heri Marwa one of the weekly winners said the Absa Infinite Card has markedly enhanced his international travel experience, enabling seamless in-flight purchases and access to premium airport services that standard cards could not provide.
