PCCB commends govt for boosting anti-corruption infrastructure

KILIMANJARO: THE management of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) has thanked the sixth-phase government under the leadership of President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan for improving the institution’s infrastructure, which has significantly enhanced its performance.

The commendations were made recently by PCCB Director General (DG) Mr Crispin Chalamila in a statement read on his behalf by the Deputy Director General (DDG) Ms Neema Mwakalyelye during the inauguration of the PCCB building in Rombo District, Kilimanjaro Region.

“The improvements made by the government to the institution include increasing the number of staff, funds to strengthen the institution’s activities and the improvement of infrastructure, including office buildings across the country,” he said, adding that the government’s support has served as a catalyst for increased efficiency.

He added, “During the four years of President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, the institution has been able to build a total of 25 office buildings, of which 17 have been completed and are now used as the institution’s offices.”

“In the year 2021/22, the institution built six (6) buildings; in 2022/23, five (5) buildings; in 2023/24, six (6) buildings; and this financial year 2024/25, the construction of eight (8) buildings is still ongoing,” he noted.

Mr Chalamila said that so far, the PCCB owns 22 out of 25 office buildings at the regional level and that out of 111 office buildings at the district level, 42 are owned by the PCCB.

“Currently, the PCCB has rented only three houses at the regional office level and 53 at the district level; this is a major step that clearly demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening this institution in parallel with strengthening the fight against corruption in the country,” he said.

Commenting on the implementation of the new building, Mr Chalamila said it cost a total of 292m/- and that its implementation was carried out through the force account.

Speaking during the occasion, the Permanent Secretary in the State House, Mr Mululi Mahendeka, who was the official guest at the event, commended the PCCB management for implementing the project, which he said showed the true value for the money spent.

“By overseeing the implementation of this project and its successful completion, this reflects the good work the PCCB is doing in monitoring projects implemented in the country.

The move ensures that public funds are used appropriately in development activities,” he said in a statement read on his behalf by Ms Neema Jamu.

He expressed optimism that the new building will serve as a catalyst for the institution’s staff to increase efficiency in their work, including ensuring that development funds are used effectively for the benefit of the nation and all citizens in general.
