Local Content Forum decorates Tanzanian Steel firm

MWANZA: THE Local Content Compliance Forum has decorated Max Steel Limited of Dar es Salaam for its role in promoting an industrial economy driven by local talent and materials.

The 4th Local Content Compliance Forum held recently in Mwanza was officiated by the Minister for Minerals, Antony Mavunde who said Max Steel among the local firms that contribute to the country’s  industrial growth.

In his keynote address, Minister Anthony Mavunde reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing Tanzanian participation in key economic sectors, particularly mining. He noted that the sector is projected to contribute over 1tri/- in revenues resulted from several local content projects by the end of the 2024–25 fiscal year.

“We are committed to ensuring Tanzanians take a leading role not just in service provision, but in the entire distribution of value in this sector,” Minister Mavunde said.

He commended Max Steel Ltd and other locally-owned companies for aligning with the government’s vision of a self-reliant, industrialized economy driven by local expertise.

The company’s Chief Operations Officer, Bhavna Pandya Barrat, said her firm is a Tanzanian-owned engineering and fabrication company whose commitment is to transforming the mining sector into a more inclusive engine of national development—one that goes beyond resource extraction to deliver tangible, broad-based prosperity.

“Max Steel Ltd is committed to contributing to Tanzania’s industrial growth through Tanzanian innovation, skills development, and strategic partnerships.

“Our vision is clear—we are not just in the business of steel, we are in the business of nation-building,” she said.

Operating from a factory in Kipawa, Dar es Salaam, Ms Pandya said her firm employs over 100 Tanzanians, including engineers, welders, technicians, and apprentices.

Before receiving a certificate and award from Minister Mavunde in recognition of its critical role in promoting an industrial economy driven by local talent and materials, the company applauded the government for its progressive stance on local content.

“We thank President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s government for creating a business-friendly environment that allows local companies to thrive and compete in major tenders. We encourage further collaboration to ensure regulations empower, rather than burden, local firms,” she added.

 “Our dream is bigger than steel. It’s about building a smarter, more inclusive Tanzania—one weld, one pipe, one project at a time.” She said.
