Ministry of Health to launch client service charter

DODOMA: THE Ministry of Health will soon launch a Client Service Charter aimed at enhancing healthcare service delivery nationwide, Minister Jenista Mhagama announced this week in Dodoma.

She made the remarks while receiving 1,600 cartons of Softcare baby diapers, worth 65m/-, donated by Softcare Company.

“The charter will be instrumental in setting clear standards for service delivery in the health sector,” said the Minister, while urging health workers to maintain ethical conduct. She also noted the government’s commitment to combating noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), noting their increasing burden on the national budget.

“A single radiotherapy machine costs over 7.8bn/-, while the bunker required to house it is valued at 5.5bn/-. Prevention is key,” she insisted.

Softcare Country Director Andi Liu said the company, which manufactures locally in Tanzania, donated 160,000 diapers to support grassroots communities.

Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule said that over 80bn/- have been invested in Dodoma’s health sector under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, with 42.13bn/- going to infrastructure and 38bn/- to medical supplies. She urged officials to ensure the donations reach intended beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, the ministry has introduced a strategic plan to reduce newborn deaths, including the construction of a specialised Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for newborns at Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital.

Minister Mhagama revealed the government has allocated 3bn/- for the ICU project, which will serve newborns with complications such as low birth weight and respiratory issues.

The initiative also includes equipping 100 health centres across the country with respiratory support machines and hearing assessment devices.

“This dedicated ICU will ensure critical newborns receive timely and specialised care,” said the minister.

She commended healthcare workers and noted the country’s significant strides in reducing maternal and child mortality under President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Maternal deaths have dropped from 556 to 104 per 100,000 live births. Sunda International’s Country Director Andy Liu reaffirmed the company’s commitment to local manufacturing and community support, highlighting their donation of 160,000 Softcare diapers. Regional Commissioner Senyamule praised the support and President Samia’s leadership in improving healthcare services, particularly for women and children.
