Five more added as Tanzania intensifies renovation of AFCON venues

DODOMA: THE Government of Tanzania has reiterated that the renovation and development of sports infrastructure is a continuous and inclusive effort that requires collaboration from various stakeholders.
As such, it has opened doors for private sector involvement and other partners to participate in improving the country’s sports facilities and infrastructure.
This statement was made today, May 19, 2025, in Parliament in Dodoma by the Minister of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi, while responding to questions from Members of Parliament regarding the government’s plans to enhance sports grounds across the country.

Responding to an additional question from Special Seats MP Aziza Ally, Professor Kabudi said that his ministry, in collaboration with the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), is preparing a special plan to improve sports grounds in primary and secondary schools. The plan will be implemented by providing expert guidance through ministry specialists.
Furthermore, Minister Kabudi noted that as part of the preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the government has designated five stadiums to serve as training venues for participating teams. These are Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro, Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga, CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza, Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya, and Majimaji Stadium in Songea, Ruvuma Region.
The government remains committed to enhancing sports infrastructure to nurture talent, promote sports development at both national and international levels, and ensure adequate preparation for major international competitions such as AFCON 2027.
