Prof Mbarawa said the funds will facilitate completion of the Morogoro–Makutupora section (422 kilometres), as well as continuation of construction works on the Makutupora–Tabora stretch covering 368 kilometres.

According to the Minister, part of the funding will be used to support the training of technical personnel in railway operations and management, ensuring a well-equipped workforce for the SGR system.
The budget will also cover maintenance of the Dar es Salaam–Morogoro section, environmental and social impact management in line with contract requirements, and oversight of the ongoing construction activities.
Furthermore, Prof Mbarawa noted that efforts will continue in developing and implementing strategies aimed at cargo generation to sustain the railway’s economic viability.
“The government remains committed to completing this transformative infrastructure, which is key to boosting trade, reducing transportation costs, and accelerating economic growth,” he affirmed.
