Tanzanian youths reap benefits from Swiss-backed innovative projects

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIAN entrepreneurs have now seen a new dawn as the various Swiss-backed development projects, through their embassy in Tanzania, are paying off.

To reach the majority of the young Tanzanians, there has been a call made to various development stakeholders to focus more on supporting innovative youth engaged in small and medium-sized businesses.

This, as it was addressed today in Dar es Salaam to the young Tanzanians, aims to boost productivity and promote sustainable community development.

Daniella Kwayu, a Program Officer from the Embassy of Switzerland, made a call during a meeting that brought together investors and young entrepreneurs involved in various businesses.

She said the main objective of the meeting was to discuss the best ways to grow youth-led innovative businesses and thus contribute to strengthening both the youth’s economy and the national economy at large.

“This meeting has brought together investors and young entrepreneurs running businesses that contribute to environmental protection and deliver positive social impacts in Tanzania. These businesses are sustainable, generate income, and create employment for many young people. Therefore, forums like this provide opportunities for young entrepreneurs to connect with investors,” said Daniella.

She further added, “There is an investment niche specifically targeting small and emerging businesses. However, some of these investors are based outside Tanzania, making it difficult for local entrepreneurs to easily access the necessary funding.”

On his part, the Swiss Ambassador to Tanzania, Nicole Providoli, stated that Switzerland has been a strong partner in the implementation of various projects aimed at empowering innovative youth in Tanzania. She highlighted that one of the key initiatives is a partnership project running from 2021 to 2025, designed to promote and strengthen businesses that drive sustainable development.
