NSSF expands social security education
COAST REGION: IN a drive to secure the financial future of Tanzania’s self-employed workforce, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has committed to extending social security education to a wider population.
The Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities), Ridhiwani Kikwete, recently led a public awareness campaign in Chalinze, Coast Region, aimed at enrolling self-employed citizens in the NSSF’s dedicated scheme, dubbed “NSSF STAA WA MCHEZO” (“NSSF Star of the Game”).
Speaking to hundreds of attendees, Mr Kikwete praised NSSF for introducing the scheme, which provides crucial short-term benefits, such as medical care, and long-term security through retirement pensions. He urged citizens to capitalise on this opportunity to safeguard their present and future well-being.
“By enrolling in this scheme, you secure access to essential medical treatment, disability benefits in case of incapacitation, and a stable retirement income. This is a vital opportunity for every citizen to build financial security,” he emphasised.
Mr Kikwete also expressed gratitude to President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan for her leadership, which has facilitated the expansion of social security benefits to selfemployed individuals under the Sixth Phase Government.
“NSSF’s plan is designed to provide security throughout your life. When your working capacity diminishes, NSSF will step in as the ‘Star of the Game,’ ensuring your financial stability through retirement and medical benefits,” he stated.
Highlighting the scheme’s accessibility, the minister noted that NSSF has implemented a user-friendly registration and contribution system, allowing individuals to save incrementally, even as little as 1,000/- per day. He encouraged continued enrollment and contributions to fully leverage the fund’s benefits.
Representing the NSSF Director General, Mr Omary Mziya, Director of Operations, emphasised that the scheme targets self-employed individuals across various economic sectors, granting them access to comprehensive benefits, including medical services.
Local leaders, including Chalinze Municipal Council Chairperson, Mr Hassan Mwinyikondo and Bagamoyo District Commissioner, Mr Shaibu Ndemanga, commended NSSF’s initiative, pledging their support in raising awareness about social security within the Coast Region.
