Majaliwa pushes for textbooks availability

DAR ES SALAAM: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has urged the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) to broaden its efforts in improving textbooks availability in all schools across the country.

He made the call in Dar Notable feats for TZ women es Salaam yesterday after leading a charity walk and officially launched the 50thanniversary celebrations of TIE.

Speaking after the charity walk, he acknowledged TIE’s commitment to printing books in large quantities to achieve a one-book-perstudent ratio.

Mwinyi He said the initiative would greatly benefit the education sector and the nation at large.

“Therefore, with the utmost sincerity, we all have to support this,” he said.

Mr Majaliwa also commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the significant reforms she has implemented in the education sector, noting that her leadership has brought transformative changes to the system.

He further called on TIE to expand its scope by collaborating with publishing companies and private sector stakeholders to reduce printing costs and ensure a steady supply of textbooks in schools.

“The involvement of stakeholders in book publishing will help address shortages and fulfill the goal of one book per student,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of books as a source of knowledge and development, the Prime Minister stressed that access to learning materials is essential for achieving quality education.

Referring to the anniversary’s theme, One Book, One Student, Mr Majaliwa said that it aligns with the country’s broader goals of providing quality education to all Tanzanian children.

“Through quality education, the nation can achieve its sustainable development goals and improve the welfare of society,” he said.
