NHIF donates kits to boost safe delivery in Mtwara

MIKINDANI, MTWARA: In a bid to honour and appreciate women in the country, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) in the Mtwara Region has donated delivery kits to expectant mothers in the region to improve the health of the mothers and babies during birth.
NHIF Regional Manager Dr Adolf Kahamba handed over the kit today at Likombe Health Centre in Mtwara Mikindani Municipal District Council.
Accompanied by a team of NHIF women workers, Mtwara Office, Dr Kahamba said NHIF chose to provide the delivery kit to pregnant mothers in a move that means to celebrate, honour and appreciate mothers’ efforts in delivering and raising children.

“We (NHIF) chose to show our appreciation and honour to women by providing delivery kits to expectant mothers to help them in improving their health and babies during birth,” he said.
Speaking during the handing over occasion, Mtwara District Medical Officer Dr Elizabeth Oming’o thanked NHIF for donating the kit, saying the donation will help relieve expectant mothers of a high cost when giving birth.

“We really appreciate the donation by NHIF; the delivery kit will not only help to improve mothers’ and babies’ health during birth but relieve mothers of a high cost during birth,” she said.

Meanwhile, the NHIF Manager in Mtwara Dr Kahamba, urged women to obtain health care insurance in order to have financial protection and access to quality healthcare.
“Having health insurance is very important as it helps in covering delivery expenses during birth while it also helps pregnant women to receive comprehensive medical attention,” he explained.
