State to boost Police force before election

ZANZIBAR: THE government has confirmed that plans are underway to strengthen the police force by providing officers with training and equipment to ensure efficient operations during the upcoming general elections.

This was revealed by the Minister of Infrastructure, Communication and Transport, Dr Khalid Salum Mohamed, while responding to a question in the House of Representatives from Prof Omar Fakih Hamad (Pandani Constituency).

Prof Fakih inquired about the welfare of retired police officers and the general strengthening of the force.

He noted that there have been numerous complaints regarding the pension calculation formula for retired Zanzibar police officers, which differs from that of other retirees.

Prof Fakih also inquired about the procedure for compensating officers who complete training while in service and those who have been waiting for promotions for extended periods.

In response, Dr Mohamed, on behalf of the Minister of State, Office of the Second Vice President, Policy, Coordination and the House of Representatives, clarified that all administrative procedures related to police officers’ benefits and entitlements are managed by the Tanzania Police Headquarters.

He further stated that there is no difference in the pension calculation formula for retired police officers in Zanzibar and those in mainland Tanzania.
