Stakeholdersurge political support for women in leadership
ZANZIBAR: STAKEHOLDERS from various institutions and organisations in Zanzibar are calling on politicians to actively empower women to contest leadership positions, aiming to significantly increase their representation in decision-making bodies.
This recommendation was made during the conclusion of a three-day visit by international development partners to assess genderrelated projects in Zanzibar.
The Coordinator of the Zanzibar Women’s Parliamentary caucus, Mr Mohammed Farid Ali and the Director of the Zanzibar Media Women’s Association (TAMWA), Dr Mzuri Issa said that increasing women’s participation in leadership will help achieve the 50 per cent gender equality goal.

The coordinator of the delegation from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender, Elderly and Children in Zanzibar, Ms Aisha Abbas Seif expressed their intention to engage more stakeholders who support women’s empowerment to drive rapid progress.
Moreover, Ms Hanifa Bashiru Kilua, Community Development Officer from the Ministry of Community Development, Women and Special Groups in Mainland Tanzania said that good governance and strong government oversight in women’s economic empowerment have enabled them to learn fundamental principles in leadership and development.
