Kilombero Sugar, local community partnership highlighted

MOROGORO: DEPUTY Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mr Denis Londo, emphasised the importance of maintaining a strong partnership between Kilombero Sugar and the local community.

Mr Londo also the Mikumi Legislator made the statement recently during the Kilombero Sugar Company’s Local Stakeholder Engagement Summit, which gathered newly elected local government leaders and key stakeholders from the Kilombero Valley.

“This partnership should be maintained to address community matters through shared values,” he said.

The summit aimed to strengthen relationships, enhance communication and foster collaboration for sustainable business growth.

Held at the company’s headquarters, the summit provided a platform to onboard new leaders and discusses critical topics such as the progress of the K4 Expansion Project, which includes the construction of a state of-the-art 420 t/h raw sugar cane factory.

This is the company’s broader business strategy and the creation of a comprehensive stakeholder database to streamline engagement and information-sharing.

Kilombero District Commissioner, Mr Dunstan Kyobya representing Morogoro Regional Commissioner, hailed Kilombero Sugar’s commitment to collaboration with local stakeholders.

“Kilombero Sugar’s commitment to transparency and open communication is commendable. This approach is essential in building trust and ensuring that all stakeholders remain well-informed about the company’s operations and future plans,” he said.

He also underscored the importance of environmental conservation and urged AMCOS members and village leaders to plant 5000 trees, securing commitments of support from AWF, Reforest Africa and the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS).

The Kilombero Sugar’s Corporate Affairs Director, Mr Derick Stanley, underscored the importance of open dialogue and transparency in building sustainable partnerships.

“This summit provides a unique opportunity for us at Kilombero Sugar to align with local government leaders and stakeholders on key business developments.

“By working together, we can drive sustainable economic growth that benefits both the company and the communities we serve,” said Mr Stanley.

Kilombero Sugar Communications and Stakeholder Relations Manager, Mr Victor Byemelwa said the summit aimed at introducing newly elected leaders to Kilombero Sugar to foster relationships for effective collaboration.

Also providing insights into the progress and longterm strategy of the expansion aimed at increasing sugar production and supporting local economic growth.

Additionally, the summit aimed at establishing a structured database with detailed stakeholder information to improve communication and engagement.
