Prisons coach optimistic despite departures
DAR ES SALAAM – TANZANIA Prisons Head Coach, Aman Josiah has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to perform well in the 2024/25 Mainland Premier League season which resumes this weekend, despite the departure of several key players.
Despite acknowledging that the exits of some of his experienced stars have created a gap, Josiah believes that his new signings will be able to fill those voids effectively.
Speaking at a training session on Tuesday at Sokoine Memorial Stadium, he confirmed that the club has successfully recruited six new players across various positions.
The new additions are Yusuph Athuman, Kelvin Sabato, Rabin Sanga, Hamad Bumage, Adam Adam and Sufian Yusuph.
“Some of our players have left to take on other duties and these departures include veterans who are employees of the Prison Service, such as Salum Kimenya, Jumanne Elfadhil, Samson Mbangula, Jeremia Juma, Nurdin Chona and Jamal Masenga,” Josiah disclosed.
He also named additional departures, including Zabona Hamis, Ally Msengi, and Hamis Kasanga.
“While we must accept the contributions of those who have left, the situation is beyond my control and what I am focused on is developing a strong bond with the players who are here and fortunately, they have shown great understanding.
We hope to start the second round with renewed strength,” he unveiled. Newly signed striker Yusuph Athuman, spoke about his excitement for the future after scoring a goal in a friendly match, he expressed confidence that his experience and ability would make a positive impact on the team.
“It’s a good start as a striker, my job is to score goals and I am determined to work hard for the team so we can achieve our goal in the Premier League.” Athuman said.
Josiah and his team are hopeful that with the new signings and the current squad’s commitment, they will perform strongly in the upcoming season.
